Don’t let seasonal depression come and catch you.

7 Tooo much tips for the Autumn/Winter Transition.

I’ll be real, Winter ain’t it. AT ALL. And for those thats blood weren’t meant to feel the cold, you will likely align to my statement, that winter AIN’T IT.

Having said that, this year i’m trying to approach the seasonal change a little differently. Instead of complaining and falling into a depression in a months time when the cold really hits I have committed to myself to embrace the change and use it to my full advantage- because whats the point only living your life for 6months out of the year?

This time last year (maybe (+) a month or two) I fell into the hardest Seasonal Depression, I didn’t want to leave my house, socialise, work had me in a chokehold and I felt like i lost myself, I refuse to let that happen for a second year in a row, once a lesson, twice an eediat.

I pulled together some commitments and habits that I hope will help me this Autumn/Winter, being intentional with how i approach the seasonal shift and thought why not share it with ya’ll. I’m here for other useful tips that might help me make it to 2024 where 30oC heat reigns supreme in full force. Winter, We Outside.

Go Outside

You don’t have to ‘be outside’ to go outside. Winter is defo the time for stacking for most, using stacking as an excuse not to get out is questionable, staying indoors shut me off from the rest of the world which in turn made me feel alone. Winter Walks can be nice, planned with friends or fam, with a hot (white) chocolate or tea. Need to stay connected, It will limit the social anxiety when the sun come back.

Find an indoor hobby

Although, I’m really trying to commit to getting outdoors, lets not set unrealistic goals. Taking up a hobby that makes you happy inside your house is also a win. Crotcheing, Cooking, Poetry, Becoming an MC lol, possibilities are endless mate. Be Creative - it will heal.

Vitamins - Vitamins D, B12, C,

The Days are going to get shorter, 4pm pitch black kinda ting. With the lack of Vitamin D I will get from the Sun, Vitamins will need become part of my daily routine more consistently.

Updated playlists + CO-Z Space

My summer playlist = Soca, as the seasons change, Soca will still play here and there, but listening to Soca in the winter gives a sense of missing the joy that summer provided me and for that I need to switch it up. Updated playlists coupled with spicy smelling candles, Heavy blankets (and the winter duvet on the bed) I’m hoping will bring a sense of calm and Co-z to our home.

Update to Winter Wardrobe

The Loooooks, One of my favourite things in the seasonal shift is re-upping the wardrobe. Taking a day one weekend to remove all the shorts and short sleeves from the wardrobe (store them in a suitcase out of site, or put them on vinted) and replace with Cardigans, Cords and Turtlenecks is underated fun trust me.

The Right Good Foods

Theres alot of depressing things about winter, coupling them with not eating what you want don’t make sense to me. Having said that, I realise (like taking vitamins) that to keep the cold and flu away you got to eat the right good foods, because theres nothing worst than being sick every other week. Been there, its long.Shout me if you want the recipe to Grannies yard soup.

Check in on your mates and mum.

Lastly, and this one is probably the most important one… everybody retreats to hibernation during the winter, if everybody hibernates and doesnt communicate, check in, shout their mates we run the risk of all falling into a depths of depression and feeling lonely together but seperate. Friends, Ima shout you.
