Sunday’s Sounds vol.1
My Sundays have always been about family and food - but the sounds are the forgotten element that makes a true Sunday.
When I was young, Sundays started at church with Mum, the car journey was always heavy on the Kirk Franklin.
After church, it’s straight to Grandma’s, you won’t get out of helping in the kitchen, or finding something to tidy, more time me and my cousins would find a way- our preferred activity turning Grandma's living room into a theme park as MTV BASE watched us run riot.
The sounds in the kitchen would always be Choice FM (r.i.p) playing from grandmas boombox, they gave us the soulful grooves man. Songs that felt like a family reunion every Sunday and the joy that those sounds brought to the kitchen, seasoned the food with Love.
I have vivid memories of dessert and Daddy Earnie’s reggae show, followed by Martin Jay’s Caribbean affair to end the week with sweet Soca sounds.
Being away from Family, I’ve started to build new sunday traditions, but the music and the vibes still remain. This playlist takes me back to Sundays in 90’s-00’s Grandmas kitchen, choreographed dances in the living room with my cousins (waaay before tiktok lol) and Mum’s car journeys. Its a playlist that evokes Nostalgia. Enjoy 7 hours of Sunday vibes, starting with some praise and worship, we must practice gratitude, we must give thanks, don’t forget how blessed you are.
